Stanford alumni and faculty win ITVS grants

Work by alums Reid Davenport, Laura Gamse, professor Jamie Meltzer and others receives ITVS funding.

 ITVS (Independent Television Service) recently funded several alumni and faculty films including:

Shifted Landscapes, by Professor Jamie Meltzer, produced by Annie Marr (MFA ‘20)

Shifted Landscapes presents a mosaic of stories depicting the environmental, cultural, and psychological landscapes of California amidst the ongoing climate crisis.

The Ballad of Luis Valdez by David Alvarado (MFA ‘10), produced by Lauren DeFilippo (MFA ‘14) 

A celebration of Luis Valdez, whose influential work in theater and film reflects the struggles and triumphs of the Mexican-American community. The film also received additional funding from these sources: American Masters, National Endowment for the Humanities, California Humanities, and Latino Public Broadcasting. 

Life After by Reid Davenport (MFA ‘16)

Life After coalesces the missing voices of the disabled community in the contemporary debate around medically assisted dying.

Untitled Cruise Tourism Film by Catharine Axley (MFA ‘15)

This film focuses on the behind-the-scenes world of cruises and the everyday people whose work onshore is essential to cruise tourism.

Brigidy Bram: The Life and Mind of Kendal Hanna by Laura Gamse (MFA ‘21) 

Prolific painter Kendal Hanna pieces together the truth of his life story, pinpointing the forces threatening to erase his memory, his work, and his name from history.
